Research

Current research activities are in the field of Bone Anchored Hearing Aids (Baha), Floating Mass Transducer (FMT) and on Direct Acoustic Cochlear Stimulation (DACS). It includes minimally invasive surgery implantation, robotics, long-term clinical trails with existing patients, developement of methods for intracochlear pressure measurements.

Special focus relies on the DACS implantable hearing system which was developed at the ENT clinic at the Inselspital in Bern. The system is based on the principle of a power-driven stapes prosthesis and intended for the treatment of severe combined advanced otosclerotic hearing losses. It consists of an implantable electromagnetic actuator, which transfers acoustic energy directly to the inner ear, and an audio processor worn externally behind the implanted ear.
