Prof. Vogel has already established a key course in the Master of Science Program in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Bern, which is particularly relevant for the research goals of the ACE. This Cardiovascular Technology course provides engineering students insight into the relevant anatomical structures and physiological concepts of the cardiovascular system, the consequences of cardiovascular diseases and current as well as future options in diagnosis and therapy.
These courses are intended to bring the students closer to medicine inside the hosiptal in order to complement the engineering component of the education program. Clinical exposure will focus on, but not be limited to, cardiovascular diseases, tools and treatment options. In the near future, case study seminars will give the students insight into the pathway that specific patients follow from admittance to discharge, what problems they present to the clinician, and how solutions with focus on biomedical technology are found.
