The SRC has established key courses in the Master of Science Program in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Bern which are particularly relevant for the research goals of the SRC. Current courses include:
1. Tissue Engineering (Dobrila Nesic, B. Gantenbein-Ritter)
2. Tissue Engineering Practical Course (B. Gantenbein-Ritter)
These courses provide students and researchers alike an insight into the relevant anatomical structures of the spine, the properties of the tissues, the consequences of spinal pathologies and the current and future treatment options using non-biological and tissue-engineered solutions.
Competence in biomedical engineering will be complimented by strengthening the clinical component of the education program. To this end, individual seminars on the topic of diagnostic medical imaging (P. Heini, Lorin Benneker) are offered to biomedical engineering students within the M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs. To promote the multidisciplinary nature of spinal research, specific spine-related lectures are integrated into the Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering courses.
