PhD thesis defense Thomas Kurmann
The ARTORG Center congratulates Thomas Kurmann, Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging Lab (AIMI), for successfully defending his PhD thesis on 20 May 2021!
For his thesis “From Diagnosis to Surgery: Towards Artificial Intelligence based Medical Assistants”, Thomas Kurmann has investigated four image-based AI assistants – two for ophthalmology and two for laparascopy, both fields that rely extensively on medical imaging and are ideally suited for the application of such assistants.
Thomas Kurmann has developed and tested a tool for automatic classification of retinal biomarkers in OCT scans in a collaboration project with Sebastian Wolf, Chair of Ophthalmology at the Inselspital, Bern University Hospital
